The St. Charles City-County Library (SCCCL) will host Sam Weller, Ray Bradbury's authorized biographer, as the keynote speaker for the annual One Read Reading Challenge.
Weller will share fascinating insights into the origins and making of Fahrenheit 451 and the author who wrote the novel. Weller worked closely with Bradbury for 12 years as his personally selected biographer. The event will take place on Saturday, October 11, at 7 pm, at the Spencer Road Branch. Copies of Weller’s books will be available for purchase from Main Street Books. A signing line will follow the presentation.
Preceding the Keynote, Weller will lead a writing workshop, focusing on Bradbury’s writing process to help attendees jump-start their own novels, short stories, memoirs, etc. This workshop will be held on Saturday, October 11, at 2 pm, at the Spencer Road Branch.
One Read is the Library's initiative to bring the community together by reading a specific book. The experience is then enhanced by creating themed programs and events to bring the community closer.
This year’s One Read book is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. This 1953 dystopian novel presents a future American society in which books have been outlawed and "firemen" burn any that are found.
These events are made possible by the St. Charles City-County Library Foundation and the Friends of St. Charles City-County Library.
